While Bass is enjoying his new lease of life with Lauren, Eva has been unreachable for a while, which has just gotten to a worrisome level.

“What’s wrong?” Lauren asked as she walked back into the room naked and wet. I tried not to look at her hips and just focus on my phone. I had texted Eva on BBM but gotten no reply despite it had marked read within seconds of delivery.

What was going on?

“Nothing jare, I just remembered someone I was meant to call last night” I gave Lauren a quick lie. I wasn’t ready to start explaining why I was worried. Wait, why am I actually worried? I have got a series of missed calls from Eva and an unreplied text. Let’s be honest, something sure wasn’t right.

“Oh did I corner all your attention?” Lauren asked as she leaned forward to kiss me. I loved her lips, could kiss them all day long. I felt like reaching out to cup her ass but we all know where that is gonna end so I did nothing.

“Maybe” I breathed once she broke off the kiss.

She smiled at me and stood up to go get dressed. I looked back at my phone and still nothing from Eva. Okay now I was really worried, I dropped my phone and started looking around for my clothes. Need to go check her to see what was up.

“What are you doing later this evening?” Lauren asked as she hooked up her bra.

“Oh nothing, no plans actually”.

“Let’s go see a movie”.

“Which?” I found my boxers and was stepping into it.

“I don’t know. Pick any, last time I checked you had good taste in movies and music”.

“Okay then, think the only good movie in theaters now is Kong. So let’s just see that”.

“Alright, don’t be late sha. Leisure mall, right”.

“Yeah Leisure mall, and I should be the one telling you not to be late. Don’t wanna miss out on my favorite seat”.

“Your favorite seat? Tell me more” She whispered as she moved closer.

“How about you just arrive early and I show you?” I smiled before kissing her nose.

“Alright, deal then. Check up the movie time and text me.”

“Sure”

Ten minutes later, we were out on the road and she was getting into a cab after I kissed her forehead. I stood and watched as the cab pulled away till it was out of sight then with some super speed pulled out my phone and dialed Eva’s number. It rang and rang but no pickup, I wasn’t giving up just yet so I dialed up again and this time she picked. Only it wasn’t her voice.

“Olumide, where are you?” Came the strange feminine voice. I was taken aback that she called me Olumide and I didn’t have the slightest clue who I was talking to. But it was obviously someone who knew me way too personal.

“Sorry, who is this?” I tried not to fret.

“Tolu, I am in the hospital with Eva. Been calling your phone since forever” My brain did a quick reset. Tolu was Eva’s closest female friend back in school. She and I never really got along, there was always this friction whenever we were in a room together. But that was for later, did she just say that she was in a hospital with Eva? Or I didn’t hear right.

“Hospital? What happened” I asked.

“You will know when you get here” And with that, she hung up.

Is this girl mad, how was I to know which hospital they were in abi when I turn babalawo? See one of the reason she and I never got along? I was still frowning when a text came through. Some hospital in Surulere.

Close enough, I waved down the first bike that came around and in no time was headed to the hospital. I didn’t even know what to think, what could have prompted a trip to the hospital and why was Tolu with Eva’s phone. I thought of a scenario in my head but shook it off, the abortion went smoothly I told myself so it couldn’t be that.

After weaving through traffic and cursing, the bike came to a stop in-front of the hospital. I jumped off and paid him, paid him more like threw the money at him sef. It was an old private hospital, you could tell it had definitely seen better days judging by the faded wall paint all over.

I went in straight to the reception which was surprisingly full of people. I was already calling Eva’s phone as I walked in.

“I am at the reception” I said as soon as Tolu picked up.

She didn’t reply, she just hung up. I tell you folks this girl is not okay at all upstairs. She is sick and has got nobody to tell her. I just folded my hands and waited for her to show up. I didn’t bother taking a seat not that there was any free space sef.

From the old to the young, there were people sitting apparently waiting for their turn to see the doctor. Did I mention I so hated hospitals, helped that I don’t fall sick like every normal human being. Well asides the regular migraine headache that is so so annoying.

Tolu showed up by side without no warning whatsoever, I tell you she is witch too.

“Where is Eva? What is going on?” I asked her.

She didn’t answer, just hissed and walked away. I followed her to the room she had turned and walked into, and there was Eva all patched up in bed with a swollen eye and several red spots. I froze for a few seconds and tried to process what had possibly happened. The lady in bed appears to have been seriously beaten up.

“What happened?” I turned to Tolu and asked again. She had better not be an idiot and answer me properly this time.

“Some people raped and beat her up” came the explanation. My eyes widened up.

“How did she get you?” I asked.

“She didn’t. Someone called me with her phone. Said they tried calling the last number she had dialed which was you but you didn’t pick up so they called the next number which was mine. The people that did this to her were not robbers or anything else they would have taken her phone but they didn’t”.

I was putting two and two together in my head. Wole couldn’t be this much of a bastard, could he? First I had to know how much Tolu knew.

“When was the last time you guys spoke and did she tell you her plans or anything about where she was?”

Tolu frowned before answering me, she was probably wondering when I became a detective.

“We spoke last night, had to catch up plans for my sister’s wedding next weekend. I don’t know where she was or heading to. We didn’t talk about that. Do you know where she was?” Now the question was on me.

“No but she told me she was going to see someone. Any update from the doctors here?”

“No, none yet, one of them just told me that she was severely raped and serious bruises all over her pussy”.

Ok now this was serious. I didn’t say a word, I just stepped out of the room into the hallway and dialed up Bobo’s number.

“How far, where you dey?” I knew the answer before he said it

“I dey office, wetin happen?”

“Abeg, I need shadow number and I need am now now” Shadow was a cult number one back when we were in school and I had worked as a mercenary for him back in school writing a couple of exams for him and I never got paid.

I didn’t complain either knowing that he owed me. And today was the day I was to collect.

“Ok, wetin happen?” He knew something serious was up. For me to ask for Shadow’s number.

“Person just fuck Eva up. I dey hospital with am now. I just wan go count scores back and I no wan make e pass today” and I hung up.
